Introducing the Midas Wholecloth Project!

Add the Midas Wholecloth Project to your digital library to-do list. This quilting design is a wonderful way to start your wholecloth journey. If you haven’t stitched one of these style digital designs, you are in luck. Midas Wholecloth has instructions as to how easily this design will quilt on your computerized longarm.

Working from the center out, this design is optimized to stitch at 40″ x 40″.  In the blue image above, the design is reduced to a 15″ square. The color coded image below indicates which groups of designs stitch together. This allows you to move your quilt on the frame, as needed, when each section finishes.

Ice Dyed Fabrics

The team at ProStitcher.com paired the Midas Wholecloth with an original Ice Dye panel by Debra Linker. The mandala and radial nature of the ice dye was a unique way to showcase the quilting.

In the center of the design we opted to try a bit of micro-stippling. That feature is not included with the digital file, but was a fun choice.

While the ice dye is greys, greens, oranges, white, and yellow, the quilting thread is a dark olive green.

The ice dye wall hanging design is finished with a facing to keep the top looking clean and contemporary.

Small Midas Pillow

The blue Midas Wholecloth will become a throw pillow. The dark blue fabric (Night by Connecting Threads) was a deep rich choice to pop this Gold Metallic Superior Thread. The overall size of the design is reduced to a 15″ square.

The design is trimmed down to 1/2″ from each stitched edge to prepare a seam allowance for a pillow. Of course, you can create a pillow on the longarm using great tutorials like the one from Balloon Dog Animal Pillow tutorial.

Go Big!

What if you wanted to go bigger? You CAN! Scale this digital design to suit you needs. Baste your entire quilt first, then working from the center out, stitch the design a total of 9 times to create a wonderfully large bed-size design.
